McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov engaged in one of the most intensely competitive and memorable rivalry in the history of combat sports. The heated exchanges that preceded their main event fight and the events that followed made it the highest-grossing pay-per-view event in UFC history.

What caused Conor McGregor's brawl at UFC 229?
Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov's enmity was fueled by a series of events leading up to their UFC 229 fight.
In 2016, Nurmagomedov regularly referred to McGregor as a 'chicken', sparking animosity between the two fighters. In a 2018 Russian media interview, McGregor's former teammate Artem Lobov took offense and publicly chastised Nurmagomedov.
Dagestani and his team retaliated by cornering and humiliating Lobov at UFC 223 fight week at the Barclays Center in New York. After a video of the event went viral, 'The Notorious' flew to New York to defend his friend and seek revenge.
A video shows McGregor and others storming a bus carrying Nurmagomedov at the Barclays Center after the UFC 223 media event. They tossed various objects, including a hand dolly and a guard rail, shattering windows and windshields.
Six months later, 'The Notorious' and Nurmagomedov faced off in a highly anticipated lightweight title showdown at UFC 229. During the pre-fight press conference, McGregor made offensive remarks about Nurmagomedov's religion, father, manager, and country, which may have contributed to his furious post-fight outburst.
