Magomed Ankalaev recently stirred a debate by criticizing Jon Jones' fight record as he eyes a shot at Alex Pereira’s light heavyweight title. After defeating Aleksandar Rakic at UFC 308, Ankalaev’s title hopes have intensified, and a showdown with Pereira seems inevitable. However, it was his callout of heavyweight champion Jones that sparked online drama.

Ankalaev took to X, suggesting Jones has been avoiding top heavyweight contender Tom Aspinall. He added a challenge of his own, vowing to beat both Pereira and Jones.

Jones quickly responded, writing:

"Magomed jealousy won’t earn you legend status, my friend. Train harder, hate less. Want to truly insult me? Break some of my records first. Let’s get started."

The exchange escalated when Ankalaev questioned Jones’ fight record:

"Facts, Jon Jones only has 2 finishes in the last 10 years, he also went to 5 rounds decision with OSP"

The clash between the two fighters led to split fan reactions.

One supporter of Ankalaev wrote:

“Lmaoooo cook that duck fraud 😭🤣🤣”

Others defended Jones, writing:

“Stop being jealous, my friend…”

Magomed Ankalaev doubles down on accusing Alex Pereira of avoiding him

Magomed Ankalaev has publicly criticized Alex Pereira, accusing the Brazilian fighter of avoiding a bout between the two. The possibility of a light heavyweight title fight emerged after Belal Muhammad was forced to withdraw from his scheduled welterweight title fight against Shavkat Rakhmonov at UFC 310.

Ankalaev immediately proposed that Pereira take the opportunity to headline the event, however, this matchup isn’t currently under consideration as 'Poatan' recovers from niggling injuries.

In a now-deleted post, Ankalaev stated:

"Alex keep running [laughing emoji]. I'm gonna beat Alex and I will give him immediate rematch as he deserve. I will stop him back to back chama"
