Ranked flyweights Manel Kape and Alex Perez were originally scheduled to start off the main card action at UFC San Antonio.
However, the matchup fell through with only a couple of fights to go before the bout. Announcing the cancelation of the fight during the broadcast, color commentator Brendan Fitzgerald cited a medical issue with Perez. Fitzgerald also stated that the matchup fell through 'out of an abundance of caution'.
Manel Kape subsequently slammed Alex Perez for pulling out of the fight. 'Starboy' claims to have had his doubts about Perez making it to the fight since their weigh-in interaction. The 29-year-old wrote on Instagram:
"Unfortunately, my opponent just came to the weighing to pose and take a picture! Inside me I felt that he would not have the courage to face me, our energies were totally different and I knew that he did not want to be here, he did not want the same as I wanted, and it was notorious the fear that emanated from him. but I was surprised to see him getting on the bus and I really thought we were going to fight. Even after grabbing him by the neck and giving him some good slaps in the chest, in the meeting room."

While Kape's doubts about the matchup were briefly reduced when he saw Perez stepping inside the fighter bus, the relief was short-lived. With Perez being held accountable for the cancelation of the bout, 'Starboy' has now questioned the former title contender's genes. Kape further wrote on Instagram:
"We arrived at the Arena, warmed up, turned on my hands and only three fights left for our fight, he just gave up! Your DNA is an abomination. Unlike you, my DNA is from fearless warriors coming from Queen NJinga Mbande, my DNA has history. I kill by the sword and die by the sword inside the battlefield. YOU COWARD ! Cowards die several times before their death."
