ONE heavyweight contender Marcus ‘Buchecha’ Almeida just hinted at fight-booking on ONE Championship’s first US event.

The unofficial news came from an Instagram post showing an image of himself and Adriano Moraes, the former ONE flyweight world champion, sitting back-to-back against the cage after a tough training session.

Marcus Almeida wrote:

“Me and @moraesadrianomma during our last camp! Enjoying the ride and every moment of it! Soon we will be battling side by side again inside the @onechampionship circle, I can’t wait!”

‘Mikinho’ Adriano Moraes is set to headline ONE Championship’s first-ever US event on Friday, May 5, at the 1stBank Center in Broomfield, Colorado. He is slated to face long-time rival 'Mighty Mouse' Demetrious Johnson for the third time in an attempt to avenge a loss.

Having 'Buchecha' as a teammate at American Top Team seems to have given both athletes the motivation and drive to get through their next matches together.

The last time ‘Buchecha’ fought on the same night as his fellow Brazilian teammate was last August at ONE on Prime Video 1.

So, it’s not unreasonable to suspect that Alemida has his next fight booked for May. But no news of an opponent has been released yet. One brooding figure that comes to mind is heavyweight knockout artist Amir Aliakbari.

The Iranian standout gained some momentum with back-to-back stoppages against elite MMA veterans Mauro Cerilli and Brandon Vera last year. Also, much like Almeida, he’s also looking for the penultimate fight that will give him a shot at the world title.

Marcus ‘Buchecha’ Almeida flies to Brazil to train with a fresh set of training partners

A few days ago, Marcus 'Buchecha' Almeida spent some time training in Brazil with a fresh set of training partners.

'Buchecha' continues to demonstrate that even though he’s one of the best jiu-jitsu practitioners in the world, there’s always room for improvement. Never one to stay stagnant, Almeida likes to learn new approaches to MMA and grappling with different athletes anywhere in the world.

Last week, when Marcus Almeida was in Rio de Janeiro to continue training and drilling on all aspects of MMA - from strikes to takedowns to passing guard - he ran through them all.

He then thanked his training partners for the session with the following caption on his Instagram page:

“Training with the brothers today here in Rio de Janeiro! Thanks @davidchaloub and @lucasmedeiros we're together! 🤜🏼🤛🏼 @casinhasurfjj”
