Mark Sangiao and Team Lakay are proud of what they stand for and what they represent for their supporters.
At ONE 164 on December 3, Team Lakay has a grudge match on their hands when the team's only remaining world champion puts his belt on the line. Strawweight king Joshua Pacio will finally meet his rival Jarred Brooks in the Philippines after their fight was rescheduled from June.
In a recent interview, Jarred Brooks, who has constantly been calling out Pacio since he arrived in the promotion, said that he was “made for this” in regard to his shot at the world championship.
Brooks’ quote borrows a similar sentiment to that of Team Lakay’s mantra, which is “champions are not born, they are made.” In an interview with ONE Championship, head coach Mark Sangiao was asked about Brooks' comments:

“Well, he can use our mantra if he wants but for [Team Lakay], we live and breathe by that motto. We’ve already proven that to the world. If he claims he’s made to become a champion, well Joshua is the true and reigning world champion. I think he needs to walk the talk first before anything else.”
At ONE 164, the time for talking will be over when Pacio and Brooks finally meet inside the circle with the strawweight world championship on the line.
Mark Sangiao says Jarred Brooks is a "master promoter" but Joshua Pacio won’t be affected by trash talk
Mark Sangiao isn’t worried about his student Joshua Pacio being intimidated by the trash talk of Jarred Brooks going into their fight.
'The Passion’ will make his fourth straight world title defense against a fierce rival in ‘The Monkey God’ Jarred Brooks on a massive double-header card on Saturday, December 3.
After their supposed fight in June was rescheduled, there has been a long build-up to Pacio and Brooks’ eventual clash. As Mark Sangiao’s only remaining world champion at Team Lakay, he is confident that Pacio will treat this fight just like any other.
In an interview with ONE Championship, Sangiao was asked how both he and his student have remained calm and collected despite Brooks’ trash-talking. He said:
“The trash talk is just white noise as long as you don’t let it affect you. We know Jarred is a master promoter. If you look at it negatively, it will affect you that way. But if you keep it chill and just take it in stride, your performance won’t suffer at all.”
Joshua Pacio shares the same approach as his head coach. His only response to Brooks has been that actions speak louder than words and fight night is nearly here for both men.
Whether there was any tension between the two or not, it’s a highly-anticipated world championship fight as Brooks poses a big threat to Pacio’s dominant reign.
