'The Situ-Asian' Martin Nguyen is pretty heartbroken with his most recent loss in the ONE circle against Ilya Freymanov. The former two-division champion was stopped in round 1 via TKO in this bout, and he says he’s not eager to re-watch the fight.

In an interview with ONE Championship, the Vietnamese-Australian athlete explained:

"Yeah, the Ilya one, I just left it where it was. Obviously, I lost. I know the results, and I know why. The main reason why I lost was because of ill preparation. That one kind of stings if I watch it back, so I just left it the way it is."

The 33-year-old Martin Nguyen is looking to put it behind him and earn a win in his upcoming fight. The former two-division world champion will face undefeated Dagestani grappler 'The Cobra' Shamil Gasanov at ONE Fight Night 7 on Prime Video booked for February 24.

Both of these fighters are known for their finishing ability. Russia's Gasanov has won 70% of his bouts by way of submission. On the flip side, 'The Situ-Asian' has earned 70% of his wins by way of KO/TKO.

Martin Nguyen is treating his loss as an eye-opener

'The Situ-Asian' Martin Nguyen understands that losing is all part of the game. He will treat the opportunity as a learning experience to become better because of it. In an interview with SCMP MMA, Nguyen explained:

“Overall, there's a huge learning curve. Obviously, I underestimated, just a little preparation and laziness. 2022 has been, and every year a blessing. I get to wake up and see my family, and everyone's still the same."

Ending the year on a loss was a challenge, but he is looking to recover from this match, Nguyen continued:

"But you know, just finishing off the year with a loss really hurt. So yeah, it's definitely an eye-opener and something that I need to get back.”

Martin Nguyen is working hard coming off a loss and will aim for a knockout finish at ONE Fight Night 7. 'The Situ-Asian' is looking to reinsert himself at the top of the division. The journey begins on February 24.
