Former double champion Martin Nguyen is one of the most iconic fighters to ever compete under the ONE Championship banner.
With his incredible run of performances that saw him hold both the featherweight and lightweight world championships, ‘The Situ-Asian’ will go down in history as one of the promotion’s greatest ever fighters.
Recent times have not been as successful for Martin Nguyen, who has won just one of his last four fights. At ONE Fight Night 7 on Prime Video, Nguyen will return to the circle to face Shamil Gasanov.
On February 24, Nguyen needs a big performance in order to keep his place in the division. In a recent interview with SCMP MMA, he was asked about his legacy in the sport and whether he is hoping to finish his career in the promotion where he made his name.

Martin Nguyen responded:
“That’s the idea, man but I don’t know what the future holds. I’m just going to take it as it comes and I’m grateful to be able to set foot in the ring, in the circle, and to represent my brand and inspire a lot of people in the ONE Championship platform. One step at a time and we’ll go from there.”

Martin Nguyen acknowledges callout from Garry Tonon and is open to the possibility
Whilst he is focused on the task at hand, former two-division world champion Martin Nguyen knows that there are still big potential fights to come in the future.
Before he can think too much about who he could face throughout 2023, Nguyen is in desperate need of a win at ONE Fight Night 7 on Prime Video. On February 24, ‘The Situ-Asian’ will face Shamil Gasanov at the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok.
Martin Nguyen was recently called out by his fellow featherweight contender Garry 'The Lion Killer' Tonon. At ONE Fight Night 6 on Prime Video, Tonon got back in the win column in MMA contests by submitting Johnny Nuñez with a kimura in the first round.
In the same interview, Nguyen responded to Tonon calling for a fight with the former double champion:
“Obviously, we got that recent callout from Garry Tonon as well. There’s a lot of potential fights to happen in this featherweight division. You just never know.”
At ONE Fight Night 7, he will look to defend his place as the No. 4 contender in the featherweight division against the fighter ranked one place below him.
If he is able to pull off the victory, Nguyen will be set up for a big fight that could earn him a world championship shot by the end of the year.
