Former two-division world champion Martin Nguyen is focusing on his upcoming fight, and that alone has him putting his previous struggles behind him.

The Vietnamese-Australian fighter will return to action at ONE Fight NIght 7 on Prime Video on February 24 in Bangkok. There, he will battle Russia's Shamil 'The Cobra' Gasanov in a featherweight contest.

Martin Nguyen is coming off a defeat last September, losing to Ilya Freymanov by way of technical knockout in the opening round. 'The Situ-Asian' admitted that he struggled to come to terms with the loss in the aftermath, but is now out to move past it and start winning again.

Speaking to ONE Championship, Martin Nguyen said:

“I just thought, ‘You know what? I'm fighting another tough opponent. I'm not going to look past him, obviously.’ But yeah, I just felt like, I don't know, man. I just went through my own demons, and yeah, I lost that fight. Fair and square. We move forward.”

Martin Nguyen, who once simultaneously held the ONE featherweight and lightweight world titles, is so determined to get back to winning ways that he chose to train for his upcoming fight in the United States alongside fellow former two-division world champion Aung La N Sang at Kill Cliff FC in Florida.

Looking to trip 'The Situ-Asian' in his charge is Gasanov, who made an impressive ONE debut in his last fight. He stopped a former top featherweight contender in South Korea's Kim Jae Woong in the opening round of their match.

ONE Fight Night 7 will take place at the famed Lumpinee Boxing Stadium. All the action in the event will be aired live and for free to all Prime Video subscribers in North America.

Martin Nguyen talks about the sacrifices he had to make over the holidays

Vietnamese-Australian fighter Martin Nguyen is so determined to get back to winning so much that he saw it fit to set up camp for his upcoming fight in the United States away from his family.

The former two-division world champion will battle Russian Shamil 'The Cobra' Gasanov in a featherweight clash at ONE Fight Night 7 on Prime Video on February 24 in Bangkok.

Martin Nguyen is training at Kill Cliff FC in Florida, U.S.A., with the hope being for him to be in solid fighting form when he battles Gasanov at the famed Lumpinee Boxing Stadium.

'The Situ-Asian' shared that the team is happy with the progress made in training, but admitted that he had to make some sacrifices along the way, particularly family time during the holidays:

"Christmas and New Year were very hard. This is my first Christmas, New Year, and Boxing Day away from family. Usually, during Boxing Day, I go see my dad - that's the date that he passed away so we got to spend this time with him," Martin Nguyen told ONE Championship in an interview.

All of the sacrifices, however, will be worth it if he defeats Gasanov at ONE Fight Night 7 and pads his chances for a shot at the featherweight gold, which he once held from 2017 to 2020. Nguyen is currently the No. 4 contender in the weight class.
