Martin Nguyen reveals fans have been asking him to fight Thanh Le in a rematch

At ONE Fight Night 7 on Prime Video, Martin Nguyen will once again return to the circle to try and regain some momentum and force his way back into big fights.

Coming off of a loss in September at ONE on Prime Video 2, Nguyen will look to rebound on February 24 when he faces Shamil Gasanov. However, he revealed in a recent interview that his next fight isn’t the one people keep asking him about.

Speaking to SCMP MMA, Nguyen spoke about how he regularly receives messages about facing a former opponent of his:

“Since Thanh [Le] has lost the title, I’d say maybe 50 percent of my direct messages are ‘When are you going to fight Thanh Le again?’ Obviously, he’s high in the rankings and I’m coming off a loss. I just kind of ignored those messages, but you know, everyone is talking about that match.”

At ONE Championship: Inside The Matrix in October 2020, Thanh Le defeated Nguyen to win the ONE featherweight world championship.

In August last year, Le was defeated by Tang Kai and now finds himself in need of facing another top contender in the division to secure a rematch for the world championship.

If Martin Nguyen is able to defeat Gasanov at ONE Fight Night 7 on Prime Video, he could set himself up for a huge fight the next time he steps inside the circle.

Martin Nguyen says he’s blessed to have Aung La N Sang in his life

Martin Nguyen has got a strong team of family and friends around him that have supported him throughout his career.

The former two-division ONE world champion has been on both sides of some ups and downs in recent years, during which he has had to call on those that are close to him.

Ahead of his return to the circle at ONE Fight Night 7 on Prime Video, ‘The Situ-Asian’ gave thanks to some of the people who have helped him stay focused and motivated in his career.

In particular, his wife and fellow former double champion Aung La N Sang have remained constant influences in his life. In the same interview, Martin Nguyen said:

“Fortunately enough for me, I have a great support system. My wife steps up and leads the family well while I’m away. I get to hang out with Aung La [N Sang] and his family and that kind of brings the family vibe. I’m blessed to have people like Aung La in my life.”

Training out of Kill Cliff FC in Florida, Nguyen and Aung La are two of the biggest names in ONE Championship. ‘The Burmese Python’ has gone through a similar chapter in his career after losing both of his world championships. However, he has recently rebounded with two wins over Yushin Okami and Gilberto Galvao.

By having a fighter by his side like Aung La, who has experienced the same ups and downs, Martin Nguyen can learn from his training partner and friend as he attempts to follow in his footsteps and get back to winning ways.
