Former two-division ONE world champion Martin Nguyen is thankful for the support system that allows him to put everything into being the best fighter he possibly can be.

‘The Situ-Asian’ is gearing up for a tough matchup on February 24 as he faces undefeated Russian featherweight Shamil Gasanov as part of the promotion’s ONE Fight Night 7 on Prime Video card. Ahead of his return, Nguyen expressed gratitude to the people who offered him support, including his wife and fellow ONE Championship superstar Aung La N Sang. In an interview with SCMP, he said:

“Fortunately enough for me, I have a great support system,” Nguyen told the South China Morning Post. “My wife steps up and leads the family well while I’m away. I get to hang out with Aung La [N Sang] and his family and that kind of brings the family vibe. I’m blessed to have people like Aung La in my life.”

Members of Kill Cliff FC in Florida, Martin Nguyen and Aung La N Sang are both former two-division ONE world champions, but that is far from where the comparisons stop. Before winning back-to-back fights against Yushin Okami and Gilberto Galvao, Aung La dropped three out of four bouts inside the circle.

Martin Nguyen finds himself in a similar situation, having been finished in three of his last four turns inside the cage. Like Aung La, ‘The Situ-Asian’ hopes to turn things around by handing Shamil Gasanov the first loss of his mixed martial arts career.

Aung La N Sang says Martin Nguyen is working very hard to turn things around inside the circle

Aung La N Sang will be at the legendary Lumpinee Stadium in Thailand when Martin Nguyen makes his return later this month at ONE Fight Night 7. Working closely with Nguyen throughout his training camp, ‘The Burmese Python’ says fans will be in for a treat when they get a glimpse of the new and improved Nguyen on February 24.

"Yeah, I’ll be here in February for Martin’s fight as well and be in his corner. I know Martin’s working his butt off. He’s in that same boat as I was in a while, you know, coming off losses. And he’s working super hard, you guys are gonna be in for a treat. He’s working very hard."

Last month, Aung La got his 2023 off to a fantastic start by earning his second straight first-round knockout against returning Brazilian veteran Gilberto Galvao. Eager to get back into the title picture, ‘The Burmese Python’ hopes to see his close friend and training partner follow the same path back to a ONE world championship.

Fans in North America can watch ONE Fight Night 7 live and for free on Amazon Prime Video.
