Fighting in ONE Championship for nearly a decade now, veteran fighter Martin Nguyen has had his share of impressive victories. But he considers his knockout win over former featherweight world champion Narantungalag Jadambaa to be one of the more unforgettable ones.
The two fighters met in April 2019 at ONE: Roots of Honor in Manila for featherweight gold, which was then held by Nguyen. It was a successful title defense for 'The Situ-Asian', finishing the proceedings in the second round with a nasty flying knee.
Speaking in a pre-event interview for ONE Fight Night 7 on Prime Video where he is one of the featured fighters, Martin Nguyen shared that the knockout win over Mongolian legend Jadambaa remains one for the books for him:
“Jadambaa [Narantungalag] being a former title holder and having taken out everyone for years and years kickboxing, boxing, or MMA, and just a standout name just in general throughout Asia and in martial arts. I feel that if you mention his name to anyone, everyone would know who Jadambaa is, that he produces the power and that he produces the skill set. To be able to pinpoint that type of finish on such an experienced guy was the icing on the cake.”

'The Situ-Asian' is looking to bounce back after losing his previous fight to Russian newcomer Ilya Freymanov last September via technical knockout in the first round.
ONE Fight Night 7 takes place at the iconic Lumpinee Boxing Stadium and is aired live and for free on Prime Video for all Amazon subscribers across North America.
Martin Nguyen says he made mistakes in training that led to loss to Ilya Freymanov
Former two-division world champion Martin Nguyen admitted that lack of preparation proved to be his undoing in his previous fight. This is why for his return to action this week, he made sure he got all the training that he needed.
'The Situ-Asian' will be featured at ONE Fight Night 7 on Prime Video on February 24 in Bangkok against Razhab Shaydullaev of Kyrgyzstan in a featherweight showdown. The clash will come on the heels of his technical knockout loss to Russian Ilya Freymanov last September.
In an interview with ONE Championship, Martin Nguyen said the poor showing he had last time around could be traced to his lack of preparedness:
“It was an ill preparation on my end. I love being fair and square. I got beat up pretty badly. And that was all my fault because of my lack of preparation. I didn’t spar. I trained two days a week, two times a day, kind of just went on my own pace.”
To help him prepare against Shaydullaev, Martin Nguyen trained abroad at Kill Cliff FC in South Florida, U.S.A., away from family in Australia. He is gunning for a win to pad his cause of staying in contention for the ONE featherweight title.
Set to test Martin Nguyen is young prospect Shaydullaev, who is making his ONE debut but has an undefeated record of 9-0.
