Former ONE featherweight and lightweight world champion Martin Nguyen wants nothing more than to compete for a world title, but he's taking his career one fight at a time.
The 33-year-old wants to take a huge win at ONE Fight Night 7 on Prime Video after a recent drop in form. However, he's not looking past his matchup with Shamil Gasanov.
Thus, 'The Situ-Asian' isn't taking anything for granted. He told SCMP MMA:
"I don’t know, man. I’m just going to take this fight one fight at a time. I know this will probably be the last fight on my contract so we’ll see what happens in there, in this fight. I’m just going to take it as it goes and go from there."

His upcoming opponent is far less experienced inside the circle, having only competed once under ONE Championship, beating Kim Jae Woong.
ONE Fight Night 7 will transpire on February 24 at the iconic Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok. The entire card is available live and for free to all Prime Video subscribers in North America.
Martin Nguyen is grateful for his ONE Championship career
Nguyen, the No. 4-ranked featherweight, has been competing under ONE's banner since 2014. Over the course of that time, the Australian native has picked up 11 victories, with 10 of them coming by way of stoppage.
The contender is thankful for the opportunity to carve out a successful career on the global stage. Martin Nguyen revealed in the same interview:
“That’s the idea, man but I don’t know what the future holds. I’m just going to take it as it comes and I’m grateful to be able to set foot in the ring, in the circle, and to represent my brand and inspire a lot of people in the ONE Championship platform. One step at a time and we’ll go from there.”
Nguyen has stoppage victories over the likes of Christian Lee, Eduard Folayang, Edward Kelly, Marat Gafurov, and Kiril Gorobets, amongst others. The former two-division world champion is undoubtedly a legend in the sport.
Be sure to tune in to ONE Fight Night 7 on February 24 to watch Martin Nguyen take on Shamil Gasanov in a pivotal featherweight matchup, live from the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
