Martin Nguyen talks about the sacrifices he had to make over the holidays

'The Situ-Asian' Martin Nguyen recently made huge sacrifices so that he can be successful in his upcoming match in the ONE circle. As a father, it was not easy for him to spend time away from his family, especially over the holiday season.

Former two-division world champion Martin Nguyen left his family behind in Australia and flew to Florida, USA, to train at the Kill Cliff FC gym. During an interview with ONE Championship, the Vietnamese-Australian fighter explained:

"Christmas and New Year were very hard. This is my first Christmas, New Year, and Boxing Day away from family. Usually, during Boxing Day, I go see my dad - that's the date that he passed away so we got to spend this time with him."

It was a tough year and made him miss his family even more. He continued:

"Obviously, being over in Florida, I missed all of that. So, it's very hard. And then with all the family festive seasons that occurred. Being at the family events over the year kind of made me miss my family even more. So, It's been very tough. But you know, mind over matter, I guess."

When is Martin Nguyen fighting next?

Martin Nguyen is looking to make all that sacrifice worth it as he looks to capture victory in his next fight.

At ONE Fight Night 7 on Prime Video, Nguyen will face undefeated Dagestani fighter 'The Cobra' Shamil Gasanov. This match is booked for February 24.

The Vietnamese-Australian recently stated that he is not looking too far ahead and eyeing up a world title shot. Instead, Nguyen is focused on just winning this match.

'The Situ-Asian' explained the situation when he spoke with Tom Taylor of SCMP MMA in an interview:

"I’m just going to take this fight one fight at a time. I know this will probably be the last fight on my contract so we’ll see what happens in there, in this fight. I’m just going to take it as it goes and go from there."

While Nguyen is aiming for a victory on February 24, it will be no easy task as dangerous Russian grappler Shamil Gasanov stands in his way. Fans are no doubt looking forward to seeing a clash between these two top-ranked fighters at ONE Fight Night 7.

The event will be broadcast live and for free on Prime Video for Amazon subscribers across North America.
