Massive firefight between Takeru and Rodtang headlines ONE 172 at Saitama Super Arena in Japan

The fighting gods have answered every combat sports fan's dream, as the long-awaited showdown between Takeru Segawa and Rodtang Jitmuangnon finally has a date.

ONE 172: Takeru vs Rodtang will be headlined by these two larger-than-life warriors in the promotion's gargantuan event at Saitama Super Arena in Japan on March 23, 2025.

While there will be no 26 pounds of gold on the line, this flyweight kickboxing super-fight will fittingly be contested for five rounds if need be.

After rising to the top of the food chain in his home country, Takeru made it clear that he wanted a piece of 'The Iron Man' the moment he signed with the world's largest martial arts organization.

The three-division K1 world champion was supposed to meet Rodtang in his promotional debut in January 2024. However, the injury bug put a wrench in those plans after the Thai megastar sustained a hand injury.

Takeru fought Rodtang's replacement Superlek Kiatmoo9 at ONE 165. Despite coming up short in the five-round war, 'The Natural Born Crusher' endeared himself to fans all over the world with his undeniable warrior spirit.

The Japanese superstar bounced back big time in his sophomore outing with a remarkable come-from-behind KO win over Thant Zin at ONE Friday Fights 81 last September.

Rodtang's redemption arc begins with Takeru

Meanwhile, it hasn't been smooth sailing for Rodtang in 2024.

While the Thai megastar emerged victorious over Denis Puric and Jacob Smith since returning from that hand injury, he eventually lost his flyweight Muay Thai world title after failing to meet the demands of the scales.

'The Iron Man' is arguably the most popular Muay Thai fighter of this generation, globally beloved for his flamboyant charisma, otherworldly durability, and seemingly reckless yet calculated approach when figuring in entertaining brawls.

At just 27 years old with over 300 fights to his name, the best has yet to come for Rodtang, who has gone 16-1 in his all-striking matches in ONE.
