Dustin Poirier claims he's unable to take final call regarding retirement decision
Following his loss against Islam Makhachev at UFC 302, a third failed bid to secure the undisputed UFC lightweight throne, Poirier claimed that he's inclined towards considering retirement.
However, Poirier has come out and confirmed that despite his inclination towards closing this chapter of his career, he is unable to take a final call. During a recent interview with Ariel Halwani on The MMA Hour, Poirier claimed that he's "searching for clarity" when asked about his retirement. He said:
"Close. But I am never going to lay my gloves down on the mat like that. Like I tell you every time, this could be my last fight everyone in the past couple of years I felt like that. But I don't know. I am kind of looking for clarity, searching for myself, but I don't know yet."
Poirier added:
"I can't say I'll never fight again but I just don't know the reason what am I going to be fighting for. I am taking at one day. I am leaning towards being done. How many more times would I need to fight to put myself back into the position of a world title? I don't know. I am not going to fight five more times just to try and earn another title shot. I am in a weird spot and I am taking it day by day."
