Max Holloway's legendary chin finally found its match in the form of Ilia Topuria when the pair clashed in the main event of UFC 308 on Oct. 26. They went to war for the featherweight title, with the Spaniard successfully defending his throne via third-round TKO.

The Hawaiian had famously never been officially knocked down in his UFC career before his title fight with Topuria. But 'El Matador' was adamant he would be the man to hand Holloway his first KO loss, and followed through on that promise in sensational fashion.

Following the defeat, 'Blessed' took to social media to share his first statement on the result, and despite being in newfound territory the 32-year-old maintained perspective with the grace of a champion.

He wrote this:

Ilia Topuria shares ultimate praise of Max Holloway following win

Ilia Topuria called his shot and took it once again when he faced Max Holloway at UFC 308 in Abu Dhabi.

He delivered on his promise to be the first fighter to knock Holloway out, but following the result, he has shared an incredible insight into his mindset against such a formidable opponent.

'El Matador' admitted that he found it difficult to face off with the Hawaiian due to the enormous respect he held for 'Blessed' and his Hall of Fame-worthy career. During an interview with ESPN MMA after the event, the featherweight king spoke highly of his opponent, saying this:

"He's been a legend in this sport... How can you dislike Max Holloway? He's an amazing human being. At some point I would even like to spend time with him."

He continued:

"During the week I was trying to find something that I don't like about Max Holloway, but it was so tough to find something about him [that was] bad. It was like, 'Why do I have to face him? Why are we doing this sport?'"
