Mayssa Bastos has gone through almost everything to achieve her status as a decorated nine-time BJJ world champion today.

One of the biggest obstacles in the martial arts world is to make a living from only competing in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and Bastos looked back into her own experience in doing just that.

The 26-year-old Brazilian contender never had any other job than practicing and competing in jiu-jitsu. Hence, she knew how hard it was to earn an income.

She shared her hardships in a recent interview with ONE Championship, noticing the difference between the old days and present moment with the organization.

Bastos said:

"I think the biggest difficulty we have is to make money."
"But today, it is much better than it used to be. I never had another job, I always worked with jiu-jitsu. I was lucky too, because in the colorful strip I already received a salary for the work I did," she added.

Next, Bastos will have another chance to expand her opportunities in the sport, as she faces ONE atomweight submission grappling world champion Danielle Kelly in a bid to take her throne and become the new queen of the division.
