Merab Dvalishvili's head coach recently described his pupil's insane 10-round training regimen ahead of UFC 311. 'The Machine' is scheduled to defend his bantamweight championship against Umar Nurmagomedov and appears to anticipate a bout that could be decided by who has better cardio.
The reigning bantamweight champion's cardio and relentless pace has been praised by his teammates and coaches for years, so it's no surprise that he puts in the hard work to ensure he can maintain it. 'The Machine' will be fighting for his legacy as UFC 311 will mark his first title defense and a win over an unbeaten contender could continue strengthening that.
During his latest appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, the Georgian's head coach John Wood opened up about his pupil's 10-round training sessions. Wood mentioned that he even got Dvalishvili up to 12-rounds at one point and was astounded by how he continued to perform:
"I've got [Dvalishvili] up to 12 rounds. The crazy thing is that when you get into those high rounds, he just keeps getting better. I don't know where or how mentally, physically, where it comes from, but the dude does not get tired."

"He gets better as the rounds go on and a lot of times, I think he feels that even though and has a phenomenal 6 rounds, he's just getting warmed up, which is insane to me."

Merab Dvalishvili's head coach explains why he hasn't changed his training routine
In addition to describing Merab Dvalishvili's insane 10-round training routine, his head coach John Wood explained why he hasn't made changes ahead of UFC 311.
During the aforementioned clip, Wood mentioned that Dvalishvili's training routine has worked out tremendously for him so far and resulted in him achieving success and didn't want to change what he is accustomed to:
"There is absolutely nothing about the Merab Dvalishvili camp that is normal. The man does what he does and he has a process. And that process has gotten him to where he's at and I don't look to change those types of things. If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
