Merab Dvalishvili's head coach recently weighed in on the bantamweight clash that was made official between Song Yadong and former two-division champion Henry Cejudo and highlighted what could possibly be a game-changer. The bout was announced as the headliner for UFC Seattle, which is scheduled to take place at Climate Pledge Arena on Feb. 22.
'Triple C' comes into the fight following back-to-back losses to Aljamain Sterling and reigning bantamweight champion Dvalishvili, after coming out of retirement following a three-year layoff. Despite contemplating retiring a second time, Cejudo announced that he would continue fighting and expressed interest in bouts at both 135 pounds and 125 pounds before agreeing to fight Yadong.
While speaking to Home of Fight's James Lynch, Dvalishvili's head coach John Wood shared his thoughts on 'Triple C's mindset and preparation for his upcoming bout. Wood mentioned that if Cejudo is motivated like he once was when ascending the rankings and winning UFC championships, he believes he will get his hand raised:
"The game-changer is gonna be like I said, Henry [Cejudo] comes out motivated, ready to and he's fired up still has that drive to become a champion again. Then, you got a lot of weapons there, you know, that he can deal with and put you on your butt...If he's ready to go and firing on all cylinders, I'd have to lean towards Henry but Song Yadong is no joke and man, that dude's got power."
