Magomed Ankalaev believes he will fight Alex Pereira in May next year
The year 2024 has been a busy one for the reigning light heavyweight champion, as he fought three times and defended his title in all three by knockout.
However, following his last fight at UFC 307, Pereira revealed that his hands are still in pain after delivering punishment to Khalil Rountree Jr. in the fight. He also revealed that he will take a long break from the octagon to deal with his injuries.
In a recent Q&A now translated by @ChampRDS, Magomed Ankalaev shared that the Brazilian is yet to accept the offer, but he is confident that he will get to fight Pereira in May. Ankalaev said:
“Pereira has not yet agreed to the fight. But sooner or later it will happen, I think the fight can take place in May.”
However, a few days ago, Pereira revealed on his X that Ankalaev wouldn't be his next opponent, writing:
“It won’t be Ankalaev!”
