Chris Avila vs. Benson Henderson took place at MF x DAZN X Series 18 at Vertu Motors Arena in Newcastle, England today. The 175-pound clash was their opening bout in the Stake Pro Tournament and was among the most highly anticipated on the card, especially considering that both competitors are notable names in combat sports.
Avila trains under the tutelage of Nate Diaz and has been doing very well in boxing so far. He came into the fight with a 6-1 record and most recently earned a unanimous decision win over former UFC lightweight champion Anthony 'Showtime' Pettis.
Henderson, on the other hand, was making his boxing debut and looking to achieve success in another combat sport. Despite retiring from MMA, the former UFC lightweight champion has been open about his interest in competing whether it be in grappling matches, boxing, or Karate Combat.

'Smooth' did very well early on in the first round as he landed powerful left-hook and caused some trouble for Avila in their exchanges in the clinch. He continued finding success with his left-hook and maintained a relentless pace, which appeared to have taken on physical toll on his opponent. Diaz offered encouragement to his fighter in between rounds, but Henderson had an excellent gameplan.

Despite the former UFC lightweight champion's pace, Avila still managed to connect with his counters. However, Henderson quickly adjusted and continued to push the pace offensively with his high volume of strikes.
Henderson's boxing debut was a success as he earned a unanimous decision win after the judges scored the bout in his favor.
