Michael Bisping gave a befitting reply to a fan that misinterpreted his remarks on Islam Makhachev’s striking. During the UFC 294 pre-fight analysis on his YouTube channel, Bisping had argued that Makhachev’s striking does not look as polished and sleek as that of his opponent in Alexander Volkanovski.
Islam Makhachev proved to be the more effective striker between the two when he knocked out Volkanovski in the UFC 294 main event. A fan commented on Michael Bisping’s pre-fight analysis video and mocked the former champion for misjudging Makhachev’s striking prowess. Bisping reacted fiercely to the trolling attempt on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) and wrote:
“Ooooh you got me. I said Islam was a very effective striker just not as polished as volk. Doesn’t mean you can’t hit a head kick. And doesn’t mean you can’t beat a certain opponent. I also predicted Islam to win. Again oooohhh you really got me.”
Bisping further added:

“Prime example is Dan Henderson. Not a polished striker but effective as f***. Trust me I know. Your boy won, you should be celebrating if it means so much to you not being a f***wit on twitter.”
Michael Bisping’s opinion on Islam Makhachev’s striking stems from the fact that the mechanics of it do not seem as polished or graceful when compared with lifelong strikers like Alexander Volkanovski, Israel Adesanya or Stephen Thompson, to name a few. However, he rightly points out that it is equally effective, if not more - as witnessed in Makhachev’s UFC 294 triumph over Volkanovski.
Islam Makhachev holds wins over two the current pound-for-pound best fighters
A lot of people within the MMA community argue that Islam Makhachev had an easy path up to the UFC title shot. While they may be right in their assessment about the Dagestani fighter’s run until the title shot, Makhachev’s title reign proves that he is indeed deserving of holding the UFC lightweight championship.
In his three most recent fights, Islam Makhachev has defeated Charles Oliveira and Alexander Volkanovski (twice). According to the current UFC pound-for-pound rankings, Volkanovski is ranked number three while Oliveira occupies the fifth spot. Makhachev is the only champion in UFC history to defeat two opponents ranked in the top five of P4P rankings at the time of fights.
It is rare accomplishment that proves his worth as champion. The Dagestan native has expressed his desire to compete against the winner of the welterweight title fight between champion Leon Edwards and Colby Covington. If the fight comes to fruition and Makhachev pulls off the win, it will be impossible to deny him a place among the greatest fighters of all time.
