Michael Bisping recently outlined a path to victory for Alexandre Pantoja for his flyweight title defense against Kai Asakura. The Brazilian is set to defend his title for the third time, which is quite an impressive feat for his legacy in the sport.
'The Cannibal' is set to headline UFC 310 against the Japanese star, who is looking to capitalize on his opportunity by becoming champion in his promotional debut. Pantoja will be in for a tough test as Asakura is coming down from 135 pounds, where he was the Rizin bantamweight champion, and coming off an impressive TKO win over Juan Archuleta.
During TNT Sports' UFC 310 preview show, the former middleweight champion weighed in and shared his thoughts on which area the Brazilian can excel. Bisping mentioned that although Pantoja can handle himself on the feet, he should stick to his strengths and actively pursue grappling exchanges en route to a third successful title defense:
"[Pantoja has] tremendous takedowns, good striking ability of his own and the man is a highlight machine as well. But to win this fight, I think he's gonna rely heavily on the grappling because Kai Asakura as we just mentioned, the man is a knockout machine but if Pantoja can get a hold of him, get him down to the ground, we might see yet another successful title defense."
