UFC legend Michael Bisping didn't retire on his own terms, and his recent sitdown on the JAXXON PODCAST saw the Englishman open up on the circumstances that led to him walking away from the sport. The final stretch of Bisping's career saw him lose two back-to-back fights, marking his first-ever losing streak.

As it turns out, Bisping was forced to retire due to complications with his left eye, which was his 'good' eye following the loss of permanent vision in his right eye. With the threat of full blindness looming over his life, Bisping opted to retire from MMA before negatively impacting his quality of life even further.

So, when Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson, an ex-UFC light heavyweight champion claimed that he would have never fought in Bisping's condition, the Englishman, revealed the reason behind his decision.

"Well, that's why I retired, because I almost lost my second one. So, it was after a fight, I was in China, Shanghai. And then we went to the after-party, and I know the symptoms of a detached retina. It started off, you know how restaurants are dark, I'd be at a restaurant and I couldn't see my hand there. And Damian, a buddy of ours, would be like, 'Oh, look, he's doing that thing again with his fingers.'"

Unfortunately for Bisping, the situation only worsened thereafter.

"And then eventually, it got to the point where I was here. So, then I Googled it, and I called up a doctor and I said, 'I think I've got a detached retina.' And they say, 'Well, why do you say that?' I said, 'Well, when I wiggle my fingers in front of my face, I can't see them.' And they go, 'Yeah, you might want to come in, right now.' So then when I went in, they're like, 'Yeah, you've got a detached retina.'"

Michael Bisping achieved the impossible with limited vision

Despite losing his eyesight against Vitor Belfort, who was on testosterone replacement therapy at the time, Michael Bisping went on to dethrone Luke Rockhold as middleweight champion at UFC 199. The Englishman stepped in on short-notice and scored one of the biggest upsets in middleweight history.

Thereafter, he defended his title in a rematch with Dan Henderson, beating the power-punching legend via unanimous decision at UFC 304.
