Former UFC light-heavyweight champion Jiri Prochazka will open his 2025 with a bang as he faces fellow former divisional king Jamahal Hill at UFC 311 this weekend. The Czech samurai will look to get past 'Sweet Dreams' to secure a shot at the belt for a third time.
The MMA community has been buzzing over this match-up, as Prochazka and Hill are two of the most exciting strikers at 205 pounds in the world today. Both men fell to current divisional ruler Alex Pereira in their last bouts. Still, they're head-and-shoulders above most of their peers - enough to still secure a shot at the champ with a massive win in Australia.
BKFC King of Violence champion and former UFC welterweight fighter 'Platinum' Mike Perry recently gave his thoughts on this match-up. In a recent episode of his Overdogs Podcast on YouTube, Perry chose his pick:

"Look, Jiri [Prochazka] is scary. But he broke. Twice in a row [against Pereira]... That's the difference maker, right? I guess if I just make a pick, I'm going USA, I'm going Jamahal Hill. I wanna see him come back. Even though he didn't take the gloves from Pereira when he offered him to spar."

When Jiri Prochazka chose his pick in potential Alex Pereira vs. Magomed Ankalaev title fight
Speaking of fight picks, Jiri Prochazka also gave his two cents on the speculated title fight between Alex Pereira and No.1-ranked Magomed Ankalaev for the UFC light-heavyweight throne.
It's widely speculated that Ankalaev is the next in line to challenge 'Poatan' for gold, the only thing missing is both fighters' signature on the dotted line. Speaking to Ariel Helwani, Prochazka was asked if the Dagestani warrior had any chance of beating the heavy-handed Brazilian champion.
Prochazka said (via Ariel Helwani Show):
"I think, no. Especially if he [Ankalaev] fights - like he said - just in stand-up. Sorry, no. If Alex [Pereira] will be in his shape like what he showed in his last fight, 100% no."
To most fans, the one aspect of MMA Pereira hasn't been showing a lot is grappling - not as much as his striking, to say the least. This opens up arm-chair analysts to seeing Ankalaev's Dagestani wrestling background as a significant weapon against the champion. Prochazka is not an armchair analyst. He is a former UFC champion who's faced Pereira twice. His insights hold a lot of water.
