Merab Dvalishvili has gained many fans for more than social media content. The Georgian bantamweight is riding an 11-fight win streak following an 0-2 start to his UFC tenure. Dvalishvili made his dreams come true in September 2024 by defeating Sean O'Malley to become the 135-pound champion.
Dana White claims Sean O'Malley could fight the winner of Merab Dvalishvili vs. Umar Nurmagomedov
On Saturday, January 18, UFC 311 will take place inside Intuit Dome in Los Angeles, California. The co-main event features Merab Dvalishvili's first bantamweight title defense, as he takes on the undefeated Umar Nurmagomedov.
Meanwhile, former bantamweight champion Sean O'Malley is preparing for what's next following his title-losing performance against Dvalishvili.
During an interview with Jim Rome, Dana White was asked about what's next for O'Malley. The UFC CEO had this to say about the American superstar potentially fighting the winner of Dvalishvili vs. Nurmagomedov:
"Yeah, I think he's gonna be watching this fight closely and could possibly fight the winner. We'll see, we'll see. I mean, I don't know how Saturday is gonna play out yet, so we would make that decision the following Tuesday and matchmake."
Before losing against Merab Dvalishvili, Sean O'Malley held a UFC record of 10-1, with his other defeat against Marlon 'Chito' Vera. O'Malley plans to avenge his defeat against Dvalishvili as he did with Vera, but Umar Nurmagomedov could potentially be his next opponent.
Heading into UFC 311, Nurmagomedov holds a professional record of 18-0, including six promotional wins. The undefeated Russian has long been considered a potential future world champion, which he plans to prove later this week.
