Mikey Musumeci is excited to compete in the United States again after fighting in Asia

American grappling star 'Darth Rigatoni' Mikey Musumeci is excited to compete in his home nation in 2023. ONE Championship will be having its debut event stateside on May 5.

The 1stBank Arena in Colorado, USA will play host as history will be made with ONE's inaugural event in the United States. ONE Fight Night 10 on Amazon Prime Video will feature some huge names in the sport, including ONE flyweight submission grappling world champion Mikey Musumeci.

On fighting in the U.S., Mikey Musumeci spoke to Jiu-Jitsu Times in an interview. The 26-year-old said:

"I’m so excited to be back home fighting in America. Since January 2022, I’ve been out of the US – it’s been about a year since I’ve competed at home – so I’m really excited to go back."

At the May 5 fight card, US-born Musumeci will look to defend his ONE submission grappling crown against Yemen's Osamah Almarwai. Almarwai is fresh off of his 2022 No-Gi jiu-jitsu World Championship in IBJJF.

In his career, he has also earned titles in IBJJF Pans Championship, American National and World Masters, among others. He will be a major test for 'Darth Rigatoni.'

Mikey Musumeci is proud of his ONE Championship world title

Holding the ONE flyweight submission grappling world championship is a major honor for 'Darth Rigatoni' Mikey Musumeci. In an interview with ONE, the American athlete explained:

“It means everything to my legacy, you know, because I know ONE Championship is the biggest title in jiu-jitsu. And for future generations, this will be everything for everyone. So to be the first person to get it, it’s so special. I’m just honored that I’m the first person.”

Musumeci would like to empower others in jiu-jitsu. He added:

“For me now, I won every title I wanted to in jiu-jitsu. Literally, every title I wanted. So now for me, it’s about having an impact on others and bringing as many people to watch and do jiu-jitsu as I can.”

ONE Fight Night 10 on May 5 will also feature a trilogy showdown between 'Mighty Mouse' Demetrious Johnson and 'Mikinho' Adriano Moraes. Plus, Stamp Fairtex, Rodtang Jitmuangnon, Sage Northcutt, Reinier de Ridder and Aung La N Sang will also be in action.
