Mikey Musumeci “feeling the fire” in his chest as he gets ready to return

Mikey Musumeci is locked in for his upcoming submission grappling title defense.

On May 5, Musumeci will look to defend the ONE flyweight submission grappling world championship at ONE Fight Night 10 on Prime Video. ‘Darth Rigatoni’ has been matched up against promotional newcomer Osamah Almarwai.

With a little over a month before returning to the circle, Musumeci is feeling his competitive fire heating up, which was described in an Instagram post that read:

“When the going gets tough will you rise up or will you quit? When you want to succeed more than anything; when you’re driven by your passion, it becomes very hard to be stopped because you aren’t fueled by cardio but rather fueled by a fire burning in your chest. Since a kid, I have had this fire in my chest, and I feel it’s been the primary thing that got me to where I am today. Haven’t felt the fire in my chest for awhile, and now it’s back. 7 weeks - Darth Bucatini 🤌🏻❤️”

Musumeci made his ONE debut in April 2022, defeating the legendary Masakazu Imanari. Later in the year, the American secured the flyweight submission grappling world title with a unanimous decision win over Cleber Sousa. He defended his throne for the first time in January by taking out Gantumur Bayanduuren with another unanimous decision.

Mikey Musumeci vs. Osamah Almarwai goes down inside the 1stBank Center in Broomfield, Colorado. The flyweight world championship match is a part of the historic ONE Fight Night 10 event, the promotion’s first event on North American soil. Musumeci detailed his excitement for his upcoming match on Instagram by saying:

“For the first time ever, the US will get to experience @onechampionship LIVE!! Since I can crawl I have been watching mma and have been to so many mma events in the US, but the experience of being at a @onechampionship event is something I had never experienced/felt in my life. It DESTROYS anything the US has had to this point, and I’m so excited for the US to finally get to see this and also to be on this legendary card with the best martial artists in all disciplines!! This is just the beginning 😊 #weareone”

ONE Fight Night 10 currently features three martial arts disciplines - submission grappling, MMA, and Muay Thai. Along with Mikey Musumeci vs. Osamah Almarwai, there is another intriguing grappling match between ONE middleweight MMA world champion Reinier de Ridder and the young phenom Tye Ruotolo.

The historic event also has two world championships up for grabs - Demetrious Johnson (c) vs. Adriano Moraes 3 for the flyweight MMA title and Rodtang Jitmuangnon (c) vs. Edgar Juarez Tabares for the flyweight Muay Thai title.
