Mikey Musumeci has praised Gantumur Bayanduuren for his toughness.
‘Darth Rigationi’ competed in the most disturbing submission grappling match of his career at ONE Fight Night 6 on Prime Video. The 26-year-old is an expert at advanced leg locks, which he quickly found success with against Bayanduuren. Despite tearing several ligaments in his leg, the Mongolian fighter refused to tap.
During an interview with SCMP MMA, Musumeci had this to say about Bayanduuren:
“He’s more skilled than the opponent I was going to face because he is an MMA fighter and does jiu-jitsu, so he knows jiu-jitsu. The problem with the other matches, the Sport Sambo guys didn’t know jiu-jitsu at all. Gantumur [Bayanduuren] is a high-level brown belt in jiu-jitsu and he’s a combat sambo world champion, which is basically like MMA.”

Musumeci has competed three times in the Circle with wins against Masakazu Imanari, Cleber Sousa, and Baynanduuren. After ONE Fight Night 6, ‘Darth Rigatoni’ was vocal about his displeasure with the damage suffered by his opponent, which included a torn ACL, MCL, meniscus, and a broken ankle. Nonetheless, the American retained his ONE flyweight submission grappling title.

Mikey Musumeci isn’t worried about the opponent put in front of him
Mikey Musumeci’s flexibility and understanding of jiu-jitsu make him a dangerous opponent for anyone. As ONE Championship continues to grow its submission grappling divisions, opponents will only get more challenging for Musumeci. During an interview with SCMP MMA, the 26-year-old had this to say about who he competes against:
“I don’t really pay attention to the opponent, just focusing on myself. It doesn’t really matter who’s there. I didn’t really care who they put in front of me.”
Musumeci is a 4x IBJJF BJJ world champion and an IBJJF No-Gi BJJ world champion. Since joining ONE Championship, he has dominated every opponent he has come face-to-face with. It’s only a matter of time until ‘Darth Rigatoni’ becomes a household name for combat sports fans.
