Demetrious Johnson believes we could see a fighter top him as the best P4P mixed martial artist of all time — but it won't be anytime soon.

In September, 'Mighty Mouse' officially retired from the sport at ONE 168 in Denver, Colorado, bringing an end to a two-decade-long career that saw him capture titles in some of the biggest organizations on the planet, including ONE Championship.

Johnson laid down his gloves and his ONE flyweight MMA world title in an emotional moment.

In the eyes of many, Johnson is the greatest fighter the sport has ever seen, but 'DJ' believes that as MMA continues to evolve and grow, someone could come along and eclipse him as the undisputed GOAT. Speaking to MMA Fighting in a recent interview, Johnson said:

"Mixed martial arts is still growing. There might be somebody who comes out in 20 or 30 years who might have the same intelligence as I had and who thinks outside the box when they fight and has the same athleticism, so we’ll see."

Demetrious Johnson's legacy in MMA is undeniable

After dominating the scene and setting a slew of records in North America, Demetrious Johnson made his way to ONE Championship in 2019 following a historic trade.

There, he picked up right where he left off in the States, winning the ONE Flyweight MMA World Grand Prix tournament, setting the stage for an iconic trilogy with eight-time titleholder Adriano Moraes.

'DJ' won two out of three against 'Mikinho' to both capture and successfully defend the flyweight crown. In between those fights, he also engaged in the first-ever mixed-rules bout in ONE Championship history — a critically acclaimed scrap with Muay Thai sensation Rodtang Jitmuangnon.

In the time since his final MMA fight at ONE Fight Night 10 in May 2023, Johnson has regularly competed at BJJ tournaments, adding even more accomplishments to an already undeniable legacy.
