Ahead of his fight earlier this month, ‘Mini-T’ Danial Williams took a trip down memory lane to speak about the hardships he experienced growing up as a child of mixed-race heritage.
Born half Thai and half Australian, Williams spent a lot of his youth worried and anxious about the public’s perception of him as a mixed-race child. Being treated as an outcast for many years, Williams therefore felt like he didn’t belong to a specific group of people, not even in his own family.
Speaking to ONE, Mini-T’ shared an instance of when he felt discriminated against after heading to Thailand as a kid for the holidays:
“I was just uncomfortable with myself. And then, obviously, coming to Thailand on holidays, I hated being in northern Thailand because there weren’t so many foreigners around that much that you just get stared at, like my brother and me. I hated going to the shopping center. People would just stare at you. I f****** hated it. ‘Why are they staring at me?’ So it could have stemmed from that as well.”

Before long, Danial Williams eventually discovered martial arts. All of sudden, he became less anxious and shy as the teachings motivated him to come out of his shell and seek excellence.
Now, Williams is a ferocious force to contend with. He’s doing brilliantly in two major sports at ONE Championship, showcasing his multi-talented skill sets in Muay Thai and MMA at a very high level.
A world-class fighter who consistently keeps fans on the edge of their seats, ‘Mini-T’ is excited to enthrall fans again with a Muay Thai showdown against Portuguese strawweight Rui Botelho at ONE Fight Night 8: Bhullar vs. Malykhin on Prime Video.
