MMA and Boxing News Recap for April 1: All highlights and results from the PFL 1 and Gamebred Boxing 4 event

It was a UFC-free Saturday for combat sports fans, allowing them to familiarize themselves with other MMA and boxing promotions they may not follow with the same fervor.

PFL 1, the first event of the promotion's 2023 season, was headlined by Brendan Loughnane and Marlon Moraes, while Rob Wilkinson welcomed Thiago Santos to the promotion in the co-main event.

Loughnane stopped Moraes via leg kicks in Round 2 after a back-and-forth opening round and won the Knockout of the Night award. The Brit has now improved his promotional record to 9-1 and handed Moraes his sixth straight defeat in MMA.

Wilkinson defeated Santos via unanimous decision, with the PFL Light Heavyweight Grand Prix winner using his grappling to dominate the fight and neutralize the striking of 'Marreta'.

Will Fleury took on and beat PFL debutant Krzysztof Jotko in the feature bout via split decision.

Movlid Khaybulaev used his grappling to grind out a unanimous decision victory over Ryoji Kudo.

Bubba Jenkins and Chris Wade faced off in the opening bout of the main card, with Jenkins securing a unanimous decision victory.

The main event of the preliminary card saw one of two submissions last night, as Marthin Hamlet defeated Mohammad Fakhreddine with a face crank in Round 1 of their clash.

Josh Silveira also secured his victory via submission in Round 1 against Sam Kei after he locked in a swift rear-naked choke during a grappling sequence.

The remaining four bouts of the preliminary card all went to a decision.

Alejandro Flores and Daniel Torres fought conservatively for all three rounds of their contest, with Flores winning via unanimous decision.

Gabriel Braga and Jesus Pinedo traded strikes for three rounds before Braga was awarded a decision victory after accepting the fight on a day's notice.

Ty Flores defeated Delan Monte in dominant fashion, winning his bout via unanimous decision. Former UFC fighter Impa Kasanganay won the opening bout of the night against Cory Hendricks via a unanimous decision.

In other MMA and boxing news, Jorge Masvidal's Gamebred Promotions hosted Gamebred Boxing 4 last night. The card was headlined by boxing legend Roy Jones Jr. and former UFC champion Anthony Pettis.

The event saw a host of MMA legends feature on the card, including Jose Aldo, Pettis, Vitor Belfort and Ronaldo 'Jacare' Souza.

'Showtime' caused an upset by defeating Jones Jr. via majority decision, with Pettis' youth allowing him to outwork his opponent for most of the bout.

Vitor Belfort and Ronaldo Souza met in the co-main event, with Belfort landing more damaging shots on his way to a unanimous decision victory.

Jose Aldo faced Jeremy Stephens in the feature bout of the evening, which was scored a majority draw. Despite a competitive fight, Aldo made his feelings clear during the post-fight interview.

Clarence Booth and Luis Feliciano traded blows for eight rounds before Feliciano was awarded the unanimous decision victory.

Devin Cushing defeated Damian Marciano via TKO in Round 3 of their clash.

Pearl Gonzalez and Gina Mazany went to war for six rounds, with Mazany being awarded the victory via majority decision.

Dillon Cleckler TKO'd Josh Burns in Round 1 of their clash after being knocked down several times.

Bi Nguyen defeated Andy Nguyen via unanimous decision after a competitive bout.

Former BKFC fighter Joe Riggs was TKO'd by Markus Perez in Round 3 of their fight after a series of hooks.

Mandeep Jangra defeated Ryan Reber via TKO, with Reber's corner stopping the bout in between Rounds 2 and 3.

Cade Howell dominated Christopher Wingate in the opening bout of the night and was awarded a unanimous decision victory.
