Gary Goodridge recently discussed his old school approach and mentality towards fighting, which was shared by several others during the early years of MMA. The Canadian MMA pioneer competed in major promotions like the UFC and Pride and was known for his willingness to compete against the top fighters in the world on short notice.
Despite never having won a UFC tournament or championship during his tenure with the MMA leader, the Barrie, Ontario native left a lasting memory for fans. 'Big Daddy' earned a vicious first-round TKO win over Paul Herrera that saw him land several unanswered elbows from the crucifix position.
In a recent short that was uploaded to his YouTube channel, the 58-year-old opened up about his mentality during the height of his career. Goodridge believed that he needed to accept any bouts that came his way if he wanted the recognition of being considered the best fighter. He said:
"I said I was a fighter and I am a fighter, so I can fight anybody, anytime, anywhere, any style. So you want to fight me? I'm saying how I am the best. To beat me, you got to beat me. So if I say I'm the best, I'm going to be the best. I don't care what you do, what time it is, you come to my house I'll kick your a**. You go in the ring, I'll beat your a**. Anywhere you take me, I'm gonna beat you. I'm a fighter regardless."

Gary Goodridge names who he'd like to fight if he was currently competing
Gary Goodridge named a few former UFC champions that he would be excited to compete against if he was still currently competing regardless of weight-division.
Despite his age and having been retired since 2010, 'Big Daddy' has kept an eye on the sport of MMA and has taken notice of some of the top competitors. In a recent short that was uploaded to his YouTube channel, Goodridge mentioned that Francis Ngannou and Sean Strickland would be opponents he would be interested in fighting. He said:
"I would have liked to fight Francis Ngannou...I would go right to the top. Francis number one, I would have liked to fight [him]. [And Sean] Strickland [at openweight]. [And] all the guys that are [competing at] heavyweight."
