With the 12-6 elbow strike now legal in the UFC, Jon Jones is looking forward to utilizing it in his upcoming fight against Stipe Miocic at UFC 309. While he plans to incorporate this newly legalized technique into his fight strategy, other fighters have already begun experimenting with the move.

At UFC Vegas 100, Gillian Robertson defeated Luana Pinheiro by unanimous decision in a thrilling 15-minute clash. Robertson dominated the first round with successful takedowns, although she struggled to mount any meaningful offense. Pinheiro fought back in the second round, effectively keeping the fight standing and defending Robertson’s takedowns.

However, Robertson regained control in the third, taking Pinheiro down early and controlling the top position for the majority of the round. It was in this round that the Canadian's corner advised her to hit her opponent "with the Jon Jones." She delivered several downward elbows to her opponent's backside, which amused the UFC commentary team.

Combat Sports regulatory lawyer Erik Magraken reacted to the video on X, writing:

"There it is folks. History made! The first legal 12-6 elbow. To the but*crack. God bless MMA!"

As for Jones, the UFC heavyweight champion might become an undefeated fighter ahead of his return to action at UFC 309, if his only loss to Matt Hamill gets overturned. The loss occurred in 2009 when Jones was disqualified for using a 12-6 downward elbow against Hamill.

However, the recent rule changes could work in his favor. On Nov. 1, the UFC officially removed the 12-6 elbow from the list of illegal moves. California State Athletic Commission's director, Andy Foster, has supported the idea of overturning Jones' disqualification, while UFC CEO Dana White has long argued that Jones’ loss was unjust. UFC 309 goes down on Nov. 16 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
