It was recently reported that Paulo Costa was offered a deal to fight Robert Whittaker at UFC 284 worth $70,000 guaranteed purse and $70,000 winning purse.
The Brazilian has rejected the offer on account of the money being too short for a fighter of his popularity and has been publicly vocal about his ongoing contract dispute with the UFC.
In an Instagram post by CombaTalk, news of Costa's reported UFC 284 contract money was shared and the MMA community was split in their opinion on the issue.

Fans supporting Paulo Costa pointed out that his popularity is a huge draw and that the No.6-ranked middleweight should be paid more.
One user @nandrews426 commented:
"Paulo Costa is literally everything you can ask for in a fighter; highly entertaining yet incredibly skillful, huge, huge social media following, talks sh*t and sells the fight, plus very good looking..."

Instagram user @solis_valley stated:
"Don't sign the contract then cry later. Dana has even said before there's other promotions that pay more... Suck it up, do ya job cause we all expendable at the end of the day and can be replaced"

Paulo Costa claims the UFC offers very little pay to their Brazilian fighters
Paulo Costa recently pulled out of his UFC 284 bout with Robert Whittaker, citing what he believes was not a fair contract offer. 'Borrachinha' has also claimed the world's premier MMA promotion offers unfair deals to Brazilian fighters amidst his own ongoing contract dispute with the UFC.
In an interview with Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour, the self-proclaimed 'Meme God' discussed his current situation regarding his contract negotiations and made an observation about Brazilian fighters in the UFC:
"I think they just actually offer very low numbers for Brazilians. I don't know what they figure. Maybe they figure, 'Ah, that m**********r lives in Brazil, the jungle, they don't need real money because the currency is like five times less than dollars so let's pay bulls**t.' That thing that I told you before, the mentality of Brazilians is, 'Okay, I agree, let's do.'"

'Borrachinha' also claimed that he never signed a contract to face Whittaker at UFC 284 and yet the UFC attempted to promote the fight. However, he noted that he would be willing to face the No.2-ranked middleweight if the promotion presented him with a fair deal.
Paulo Costa last fought Luke Rockhold at UFC 278, winning via unanimous decision.
