Muhammad Mokaev's tough career stretch only got more difficult. Weeks after his publicized departure from the UFC, the former flyweight contender announced on social media that he had survived a major car crash.

Mokaev did not escape without injuries, as he would say in his post that he had been released from the hospital. 'The Punisher' shared daunting images of what appeared to be at least three severely damaged vehicles involved in the accident.

Mokaev captioned the post:

"Alhamdulillah. I'm well, out of the hospital. Thank u for the support! I have been tested on high level at this stage of my career and I will be back stronger InshAllah!"

The Russian news site Mash initially reported Mokaev's involvement in the car crash with the 24-year-old reacting to it hours later. Mokaev did not specify what injuries he potentially suffered or if he was sent to the hospital as a precaution.

Since improving to 13-0 in a bad-blood feud with Manel Kape at UFC 304, Mokaev was infamously set free by Dana White and the UFC. In his post-fight presser, White noted that it had been the final fight of Mokaev's contract and the UFC had opted not to re-sign him.

Is Muhammad Mokaev with an MMA promotion?

After his essential release from the UFC in July, Muhammad Mokaev made his case for the promotion to re-sign him as an undefeated title contender ranked in the top 10 but accepted his fate shortly after. In the time since, Mokaev has teased potentially signing with a new promotion but still appears to be a free agent.

Mokaev publicly claimed that he had been contacted by multiple organizations on social media but has yet to announce an official decision. 'The Punisher' tweeted that he was "signed" on Aug. 12 but did not include any details.

Most recently, PFL CEO Peter Murray told Sherdog that he thinks Mokaev could be a potential star for the promotion but is still uncertain about signing the young prodigy due to the company's current lack of a 125-pound division. Should the Dagestani end up with the PFL, it seems likely that it will not happen until after the conclusion of their 2024 season in November.
