Fans recently reacted after Chael Sonnen admitted that he made up the infamous story regarding the Nogueira brothers and a bus. It was one of the 47-year-old's most memorable stories as it showcased his ability as a storyteller and trash talker.

'The American Gangster's story has taken on a life of its own as fans have since asked Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira about it during his UFC Q & As. While speaking to the media ahead of his boxing bout against Anderson Silva this Saturday, Sonnen admitted that he made the story up, but mentioned that he had a good explanation. He said:

"I made that story up. You wanna know what really happened the first time I met Nogueira? He thought my phone was a pop tart. He took it, he bit it in half. I would've called and told somebody about it or posted on social media but you can't really use your phone when it's broken in half."

What was Chael Sonnen's infamous Nogueira brothers bus story?

Chael Sonnen casually shared the infamous Nogueira brothers bus story a decade ago during an interview with Ariel Helwani.

The former middleweight title challenger had not been in the public eye since his loss to Anderson Silva at UFC 117 and took aim at a number of fighters, including Wanderlei Silva and the Nogueira brothers. Sonnen claimed he was there when both fighters arrived in America and mentioned that they mistook a bus for being a horse. He said:

"This is a true story. There was a bus that pulled up to a red light and 'little Nog' tried to feed it a carrot, while 'big Nog' was petting it, he thought it was a horse. This really happened...He tried to feed a bus a carrot and now you're telling me that country [Brazil] has computers? I didn't know that."
