Nico Carrillo thanks ONE Championship for booking interim title tilt: “The only right thing to do”

Second-ranked ONE Championship bantamweight Muay Thai contender 'King of the North' Nico Carrillo of Scotland admits he was more than dismayed when his showdown against two-sport king 'The Kicking Machine' Superlek Kiatmoo9 was unceremoniously scrapped after the latter fell to injury.

But Carrillo gives credit to ONE for handling the situation well and putting him right back into the mix with a shot for interim gold.

Speaking to Sports Illustrated in a recent interview, Carrillo praised the world's largest martial arts organization. 'King of the North' said:

"Obviously, thanks to ONE for getting another fight sorted, which was the most deserving thing obviously. The champion’s out, I’m the contender, the only right thing to do is to make an interim fight. So they’ve done an amazing job of doing that. With that being said, nonetheless, it was a very stressful day up until actually getting the news that I was still fighting. So yeah, very deflating until that. But I was super happy to get the replacement."

Carrillo heads to the Circle this weekend against a fellow phenom to vie for the interim strap.

'King of the North' Nico Carrillo will go for gold when he faces Algerian-Thai phenom Nabil Anane for the ONE interim bantamweight Muay Thai world title.

The two lock horns in the co-main event of ONE 170, which will broadcast live from the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand this Friday, Jan. 24.
