Former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov reacted to the recent announcement regarding UFC 311 after UFC CEO Dana White recently announced that a title fight between Islam Makhachev and Arman Tsarukyan will headline the event. The co-main event will feature another title bout in the form of Merab Dvalishvili vs. Umar Nurmagomedov.

"Two title fights at once! I think it's never happened before, or hasn't happened until now. What a night is waiting for me. I hope I'll survive."

Islam Makhachev could surpass Khabib Nurmagomedov's record at UFC 311

Back when he was competing in the UFC's lightweight division, Khabib Nurmagomedov successfully defended his 155-pound strap against Conor McGregor, Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje. With these three victories, 'The Eagle' is currently tied with B.J. Penn, Frankie Edgar, Benson Henderson and Islam Makhachev for the most lightweight championship defenses.

This could change soon as Makhachev is set to defend his lightweight throne for the fourth time at UFC 311. If the Dagestani manages to defeat Arman Tsarukyan, he will move to the top of the list with four successful defenses at 155 pounds. Since capturing the belt by defeating Charles Oliveira back at UFC 280 in October 2022, Makhachev has gone on to defend his throne against Alexander Volkanovski twice and Dustin Poirier. His fourth defense will come against Tsarukyan, who he has defeated in the past, albeit during the early stages of both their UFC careers.
