MMA fans have been arguing whether current lightweight king Islam Makhachev will be able to surpass Anderson Silva's UFC record of the longest winning streak. It all started when an MMA account named @DovySimuMMA uploaded a post on X which featured a statistic of the longest UFC win streaks.
At the top of the list was Silva with 16 straight wins. Trailing the Brazilian was former welterweight champion Kamaru Usman who had 15 wins and Makhachev was in the third spot with 14 victories.
In the caption of the post, the user opined:
"I think Islam will break this record."

The post caught the attention of several MMA fans, who contributed to the debate by voicing their opinions in the comments section.
One individual shared that the statistic was irrelevant as, according to them, Jon Jones was undefeated.
"That's all nonsense. Jon Jones never lost."
Another person thinks Makhachev might break Silva's record if he stays at lightweight. But if the Dagestani decides to move up in weight class, he might run a higher risk of losing.
"If he stays at lightweight, I think he'll definitely break the record in 2026. He could break it by moving up too, but there's a larger chance that he loses if he moves up."
One user opined that Silva had faced 'more talented' fighters during his run in the UFC.
"Unpopular opinion: Anderson fought more talented opponents."

What's next for Islam Makhachev in the UFC?
Islam Makhachev is all set to return to action as he will headline the first UFC pay-per-view event of 2025. The lightweight king will lock horns against Arman Tsarukyan at UFC 311 on Jan. 18 at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California.
The fight will be a rematch as the two athletes first competed way back in April 2019. That fight ended with a unanimous decision victory for Makhachev.
