Conor McGregor's return to the UFC as TUF coach sparked rumors that Tony Ferguson would be his opponent's coach as soon as the news surfaced.

'The Notorious' Conor McGregor recently turned to Instagram to proclaim his homecoming to the UFC octagon.

A few fighters are rumored to be coaching the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter. Tony Ferguson is the most prominent frontrunner, having recently issued a challenge to the former two-division UFC champion.

However, MMA fans all around the world have expressed a broad spectrum of emotions in relation to this contest.

Instagram user @hotsaucesportscards advocated that Tony Ferguson should retire, and he quoted:

"If it’s official it’s sad they are throwing Tony into a tough fight. He should retire, he still hasn’t recovered from the head-kick KO. Did anyone watch his fight vs an old Nate?"

Another user @serious_mikev wrote that he is not interested in watching 'El Cucuy' die in the cage:

"Not interested in watching Tony die in the cage. Tony should really consider his health".

@_groovybear suggested that Michael Chandler should be a worthy opponent for the Irishman, and he quoted:

"Mcgregor and Chandler, coachs fight on ppv for Conor’s return, build up that fight along with the show."

@thatone_xtim believes that Ferguson will easily smoke Conor McGregor:

"Idk why yall so worried Tony beats mcnuggets all day".

UFC veteran Urijah Faber liked the idea of McGregor as the TUF coach and commented that:

"This will be awesome. Do it!"

Michael Chandler believes that he is an worthy matchup against Conor McGregor

Michael Chandler believes there is no other choice for Conor McGregor's comeback opponent.

The three-time Bellator lightweight champion, Michael Chandler, stated his intention to seek big fights upon entering the octagon in January 2021. He has already fought notable fighters like Dustin Poirier, Justin Gaethje, Tony Ferguson, and Charles Oliveira. However, his goal of fighting the former double champ is yet to be achieved as talks of McGregor vs. Ferguson in the TUF season heat up in 2023.

Chandler recently appeared on former middleweight champion Michael Bisping's podcast show Believe You Me on YouTube and discussed himself being a potential opponent for fellow lightweight contender. 'Iron' quoted:

"I know for sure that was definitely just a tweet thrown out there to see if it gained any traction."

He further added:

"Obviously, everybody knows I would be down. Me, Conor, on TUF, whether it be four-six weeks, however long we would be filming that thing."

Chandler discussed that fight fans want this fight to happen:

"I want the fight. Everybody knows that. The fans want the fight. Dana has gone public saying he wants that fight so the UFC wants the fight."
