ONE atomweight submission grappling world title challenger Mayssa Bastos has dealt with ups and downs in both her personal and professional life.
Even the greats fall down sometimes, and for Bastos, it's all about knowing how to pick up the pieces and live to fight another day.
This bulletproof mindset, along with her tremendous talents, allowed the 26-year-old Brazilian to consistently win at the highest levels of 'The Gentle Art.'
The nine-time IBJJF world champion shared in an exclusive ONE Championship interview:

"I think everyone goes through difficult times. Every challenge we face is a way for us to grow, surpass, and go through what we consider is difficult. Sometimes what is difficult today, maybe tomorrow, looking for a more mature perspective, is not so big [anymore], what we are going through."
Mayssa Bastos fittingly ended with a profound message, adding:
"What also helps is the certainty that nothing is permanent."
Life is all about perspective. For Bastos, it's about understanding that we have no control over the things that happen to us, but we always have a choice on how to respond to it.
Meanwhile, the Art of Jiu Jitsu Academy superstar will look to add another massive accomplishment to her expansive resume in the penultimate match of ONE Fight Night 24: Brooks vs Balart on Prime Video.
Danielle Kelly isn't impressed by Mayssa Bastos' ONE debut
Mayssa Bastos dazzled in her promotional debut earlier this year, where she outclassed Kanae Yamada over 10 minutes at ONE Fight Night 20.
This impressive win earned her a world title shot against inaugural submission grappling queen Danielle Kelly this coming Friday, August 2, live at U.S. Primetime from Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
The American champ, though, was quite critical of Bastos' performance. She told ONE Championship:
"Mayssa took her back in the two-and-a-half minute mark and then Yamada escaped. I think she's gonna take this more seriously, because the other girl, in that ruleset, the other girl could've also won. That's not really talked about much."
