MMA fans are hyped as Israel Adesanya announced his highly anticipated return to the UFC. 'Stylebender' will step back into the octagon to face Dricus du Plessis for the middleweight title on August 17 at UFC 305 in Perth, Australia.

Adesanya previously announced he would be taking a brief hiatus from MMA after his shocking upset loss to Sean Strickland at UFC 293 last September. The Nigerian New Zealander delivered an uncharacteristically poor performance on the night, which also saw him hand the 185-pound title to 'Tarzan'.

During Adesanya's absence from the cage, Strickland faced du Plessis for his first title defense. The pair fought in a grueling five-round contest which saw 'Stillknocks' narrowly clinch the title via split decision.

Five months on from du Plessis' win, Israel Adesanya confirmed earlier today that he will be facing the South African for his first title defense. He captioned the post:

"The SUN of Africa is the same sun that lights up our planet. The SUN will set and will rise again until you walk into it. 🌅 The SUN, enjoy while it shines. Darkness falls when it’s gone."

Fans are understandably excited at the prospect of Adesanya's return, with many noting that the match-up will finally allow Adesanya and Dricus du Plessis to settle their beef. A fan wrote:

Israel Adesanya "excited" about UFC return

Before announcing his return bout against Dricus du Plessis, Israel Adesanya had opened up about his UFC comeback and his plans for the future.

'Sylebender' took a brief hiatus from the octagon following his loss to Sean Strickland last year. The 34-year-old stated at the time he needed to rest and recover from non-disclosed injuries. He also said he needed a mental reset.

Adesanya then recently discussed the prospect of his fighting return on his YouTube channel, days before he announced his bout against du Plessis. In the video, the former two-time middleweight champ revealed he couldn't wait to get back in the cage. He said:

"I'm excited. It's been a year, almost a year like a little more by the time I get back in the octagon. People are always like, 'I hope you get the belt back'...I have belts. I don't need anymore belts. I'm coming for heads."
