UFC fans were heartbroken after Gilbert Burns suffered his third consecutive defeat at UFC Vegas 97. Burns returned to competition against Sean Brady on Sept. 7, hoping to get back in the win column.

However, Brady controlled most of the rounds, displaying superior striking and grappling. To his credit, Burns did a respectable job defensively and landed some powerful shots. However, he could not string together effective combinations that could halt Brady's advance and swing the momentum in his favor.

In the end, the Philadelphia native cruised to a convincing unanimous decision win on the scorecards (50-45 X 2, 49-46).

The performance was a far cry from Burns' previous outings where he offered stiff resistance to his opponents irrespective of the outcome. The gun-shy version of 'Durinho' seems to have led many fans to believe it's time for him to call it a career.

Fans took to social media to share their thoughts on the same.

The most recent win of Burns' professional MMA career came in April 2023 when he defeated Jorge Masvidal by unanimous decision in the UFC 287 co-main event. Since then, he has lost to Belal Muhammad, Jack Della Maddalena, and Brady.

Burns has competed at welterweight since August 2019. Before the recent skid, his only defeats in the division came against Kamaru Usman and Khamzat Chimaev. Despite the TKO loss against Usman, Burns had his moments in their UFC 258 title fight and hurt 'The Nigerian Nightmare' on the feet.

Meanwhile, the Chimaev fight ended in a close unanimous decision loss that could have gone either way. Fans' disappointment in Burns' performance appears to stem from the fact that both his recent opponents, Brady and Maddalena, outlanded him 2-to-1 in total strikes, suggesting a steep decline in the Brazilian's striking output in fights.

Additionally, Brady was able to take 'Durinho' down a staggering seven times in their fight. Previously, Burns had never been taken down more than twice in a fight at welterweight.
