There is no denying that Team Lakay’s Eduard Folayang is a bonafide legend under the ONE Championship banner. As a former ONE lightweight world champion, Folayang has squared off with some of the best in the world dating back to the first event of the promotion in 2011.
Unfortunately, ‘Landslide’ has seen much better days. Following his most recent loss at ONE on Prime Video 5 against Brazilian striker Edson Marques, Folayang is staring down the barrel of a five-fight losing streak in MMA dating back to January 2020 and has lost seven of his last eight fights with the lone win coming against Mongolia’s Amarsanaa Tsogookhuu in 2019.
With Eduard Folayang’s mixed martial arts career seemingly on a landslide of its own, ONE CEO and Chairman Chatri Sityodtong questioned whether or not it was time for the Team Lakay legend to hang up his gloves. Speaking at the ONE on Prime Video 5 post-fight press conference, the ONE CEO said:
“Well, that's the thing about martial arts, like many other disciplines you can compete in. It's really up to Eduard. I need to talk with Mark [Sangiao] and Eduard. It's too early for me to say.”

As the ONE CEO stated, even if Eduard Folayang is done in MMA, ONE Championship is the home of multiple combat sports including kickboxing, Muay Thai, and submission grappling. It’s entirely possible that Folayang may opt to try his hand at another discipline before walking away altogether.

Jhanlo Sangiao believes Eduard Folayang and Team Lakay will rise again
The weekend of ONE on Prime Video 5 and ONE 164 wasn’t bad for every member of Team Lakay. Bantamweight standout Jhanlo ‘The Machine’ Sangiao scored a win for himself and his team at Saturday’s ONE 164 event, defeating Anacleto Lauron via submission in less than two minutes.
The victory moved Sangiao to 2-0 inside the Circle and 5-0 overall. Speaking about his team's struggles following the event, including teammate Joshua Pacio’s ONE world title loss to Jarred Brooks in the ONE 164 main event, ‘The Machine’ was confident that Team Lakay would rise again:
“I know we don’t have belts anymore but it’s not the end. We are here, we are rising, we do our best to get [the belts] back, not only four, but more.”
