ONE Championship on why Muay Thai fighters wear their signature headbands

As ONE Championship establishes a stronger footprint in North America, many American and Canadian fans will be exposed to sports like Muay Thai for the first time. As a result, the promotion is taking some to answer some fan questions on Instagram.

Recently, ONE shared a video clip of Muay Thai’s hottest stars, including Nat Jaroonsak, Tawanchai PK.Saenchai, and Stamp Fairtex, explaining why they wear traditional headbands, commonly referred to as a Mongkol.

“The Mongkol is like the coach’s spirit which we will ask monks or parents to consecrate it. It’s a sacred custom for all Muay Thai fighters to carry around and wear it to the fight.”

ONE fans are in for a treat at ONE on Prime Video 4 when reigning strawweight Muay Thai world champion Joseph Lasiri challenges the flyweight titleholder Rodtang Jitmuangnon.

After facing some early adversity in his ONE career, ‘The Hurricane’ has stormed back with three impressive victories. In just a few short weeks, Lasiri will take on his biggest challenge yet in Rodtang.
