ONE Fight Night 24 results: Jarred Brooks vs. Gustavo Balart

In the ONE Fight Night 24 main event, former ONE world champion Jarred Brooks returned to the legendary Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, looking to once again wrap 26 pounds of gold around his waist.

After surrendering the strawweight MMA world title to Joshua Pacio via a devastating DQ loss in Qatar, ‘The Monkey God’ met streaking Cuban sensation Gustavo Balart to crown an interim strawweight MMA champion. However, after ‘El Gladiador’ failed to meet weight and hydration requirements for the fight, he is not eligible to take home the belt, even with a win.

But if Brooks comes out on top, he will become a two-time ONE world champion and set the stage for a trilogy fight with Pacio.

Round 1: Right out of the gate, Brooks shoots in and takes Balart down against the ropes. Brooks attempts to work his way into side control, but Balart scrambles back to his feet. Brooks keeps his grip and once again drags Balart to the mat. ‘The Monkey God’ attempts to take Balart’s back but allows ‘El Gladiador’ to reverse and get on top of Brooks.

Brooks gets back to his feet as Balart attempts to improve his position and immediately takes Balart’s back during the ensuing scramble. Brooks attempts to cinch in a rear-naked choke but is unable to get under Balart’s chin.

With time running out in the opening round, Brooks once again goes for an RNC. This time, he manages to cinch his arm under Balart’s chin and apply the squeeze, forcing Balart to tap out.
