ONE Fight Night 26 results and recap: Mayssa Bastos vs Danielle Kelly

After surrendering the ONE atomweight submission grappling world championship to Mayssa Bastos in August, Danielle Kelly is back to try and reclaim the crown and become ONE Championship’s first-ever two-time grappling queen.

Bastos bested Kelly, much to the shock of BJJ fans, the last time they met inside the legendary Lumpinee Stadium. Returning to the iconic venue, gold and pride were both on the line at ONE Fight Night 26 when Bastos and Kelly ran it back in one of the most anticipated rematches of 2024.

Round 1: The ladies get right to it with Kelly getting an early trip and looking to lock up the champ’s leg. Bastos spins out and gets on top, but she’s not completely out of danger just yet as Kelly traps Bastos’ right foot with her own leg. Kelly continues to look to wrap up the legs as Bastos works to try and pass.

Bastos clears her leg and looks to get into side control and eventually does just past the two-minute mark of the contest. Bastos moves into north-south. Kelly once again looks for a leg, but Bastos adjusts and gets back into side control. Kelly gets back to her feet and stomps down on Bastos’ leg while looking for a guard pass.

As we reach the halfway point, no catches have been awarded to either competitor, but both have been very aggressive thus far. Bastos has a single butterfly hook in. Kelly steps over into half-guard and traps Bastos in the corner. The referee pauses the bout to reposition them in the center of the ring. Bastos quickly scrambles and gets both butterfly hooks back in, but Kelly is dictating the match.

Kelly stacks Bastos, essentially folding her in half. During the exchange, Bastos snatches Kelly’s leg and goes to work on a heel hook or a potential toe lock. Kelly adjusts, but that allows Bastos to snatch Kelly’s neck and cinch in a choke, but no catch is awarded with 60 seconds left in the match. Kelly floats underneath and gets back into full guard. Bastos attempts to get a hold of Kelly’s knee as Kelly is fighting to get control of Bastos’ foot.

Bastos desperately shoots for a submission and grabs a hold of Kelly’s leg, scoring a catch with less than 20 seconds to go. The contest ends with Bastos continuing to crank on Kelly’s leg, but unable to secure the tap out.

With Mayssa Bastos’ catch in the closing seconds of the matchup, she is awarded the victory via unanimous decision, retaining her ONE world title and handing Danielle Kelly her second straight loss on martial arts’ biggest global stage.

It was the 120th career win for the nine-time IBJJF world champion, who is now 2-0 in ONE Championship.
