ONE Fight Night 26 results and recap: Reece McLaren vs. Jarred Brooks

Current ONE interim strawweight MMA world champion Jarred Brooks made his flyweight debut at ONE Fight Night 26 against number four-ranked divisional contender Reece McLaren on Friday evening.

The two figured in a thrilling match in front of the packed Lumpinee Stadium crowd in Bangkok, Thailand. McLaren wanted to spoil the debut of the Brooks in the weight class, while the American star aimed to start a run for the vacant belt and become a two-division MMA world champion.

Round 1: Brooks immediately imposed his superior wrestling and grappling skills against McLaren and controlled him in the corner for most of the opening round.

The American constantly looked for submission opportunities by softening up the Aussie with solid punches on the side of the head McLaren. While on McLaren's back, Brooks also threw vicious knee strikes on McLaren's thigh.

In the final minute of the round, McLaren finally broke free from Brooks' body lock, and they both threw down in the middle of the ring, landing significant punches.

Round 2: McLaren pushed forward in the opening phase of the second round, and he threw a powerful head kick, but Brooks caught it to secure another takedown with only seconds into the round.

Brooks again controlled the grappling battle halfway into the round and started swarming McLaren with his top-level wrestling and grappling. At the 2:35 mark of the second round, Brooks finally let go of the clinch position to start another striking exchange.

'The Monkey God' was on the other end of McLaren's crip striking combinations and was able to make Brooks' nose bloodied. This dominant striking from McLaren continued until the end of the round to look good in the judges' eyes.

Round 3: A more cautious and calculated approach was seen in the first minute of the final round, but both were able to land solid strikes against each other. McLaren attempted to fly a knee but failed to land cleanly on Brooks.

The elbow strikes and punches of McLaren added more damage to Brooks' face as he opened another cut on his eyebrow. This damage became more visible as the cut on Brooks' forehead grew bigger and now made him taste his own blood.

McLaren made a final attempt to finish the match by producing a D'arce choke at the last minute to stamp the victory for him and extend his win streak to two.

'Lightning' survived the early grappling attack from 'The Monkey God' and earned his 11th victory under the world's largest martial arts organization. Both fighters thrilled the fans in attendance at the Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, but McLaren inflicted more damage during the match, which became his key to victory.

Aside from his elite striking, McLaren also displayed his showmanship whenever he successfully evaded the spinning kicks from Brooks.
