ONE Fight Night 27 fight results: Tatsumitsu Wada vs Sanzhar Zakirov

Winner in two of his last three fights, Japanese standout Tatsumitsu Wada returned to the legendary Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand for a clash with undefeated prospect Sanzhar Zakirov at ONE Fight Night 27 on Prime Video.

Thus far, Zakirov has won three straight inside the Circle, including wins over Dave Bangguigui, Zaiundin Suleimanov, and Ryosuke Honda. Will the man from Uzbekistan keep his ‘O’ intact, or will Wada score his seventh career win under the ONE banner?

Round 1: Things got off to a furious start with Zakirov throwing a spinning heel kick to the body that partially lands. Zakirov connects with a calf kick and Wada attempts to respond with a right. Just over the one-minute mark of the round, Zakirov shoots in for a double-leg takedown and secures it against the ropes. Wada digs in with the underhooks and fights his way back up.

Wada lands a nice calf kick that takes Zakirov off his feet. Wada declines to go down to the mat with Zakirov and Zakirov attempts another flashing enziguri-style kick on his way back up. As the fight results on the feet, Zakirov throws a knee that catches Wada low, bringing a brief pause to the bout. With Wada able to continue, the fight resumes with just over two minutes left to go. Zakirov closes the distance and momentarily gets Wada backed into the corner, but quickly backs away and lands a left that appears to have cut Wada open near his right eye.

Zakirov lands a front kick followed by another leg kick. Zakirov clips Wada with a left. Wada attempts to respond with a one-two as the 10-second clacker sounds, but another accidental low blow to Wada halts the contest. The fight resumes moments later, but there’s not enough time on the clock for either fighter to offer up any more offense.

Round 2: Zakirov shoots in for a takedown almost immediately in the second, but Wada fends off the attempt and stays upright. As we approach the 90-second mark of the round, Zakirov lands yet another accidental low blow to Wada, this time via a wayward punt kick straight up the middle that clearly connected with Wada’s cup. Referee Herb Dean issues a yellow card to Zakirov before the fight resumes.

Wada lands a nice uppercut, and Zakirov shoots for another takedown, but Wada fends it off once again. Zakirov lands a couple of solid lefts as Wada misses the mark. Zakirov shoots in for another takedown, but the fighters nearly end up outside the ring, which prompts Dean to reset the position in the middle of the ring. Zakirov secures Wada’s back and locks in a body triangle.

Wada is starting to bleed out of his nose as Zakirov peppers his opponent with a series of shots before looking for the rear-naked choke. Wada quickly peels Zakirov’s arm away from his neck and rides out the remainder of the round in a precarious position.

Round 3: Zakirov lands a jab and follows it up with a flying knee, but Wada sees it coming. Wada fires back with a right that lands on the button. As Wada looks to put on the pressure, Zakirov throws another spinning heel kick before shooting in for a takedown. Wada defends the straight double-leg attempt and continues to apply pressure. Zakirov goes for another takedown and Wada once again defends successfully. Zakirov is starting to look a bit labored as she shoots in for yet another failed takedown attempt. Zakirov lands a nice knee up the middle, but it’s Wada who’s trying to push the pace and sway the scorecards in his favor.

Wada lands a nice right hand and Zakirov goes for another flashy cartwheel kick that hits nothing but air. With 30 seconds to go, Zakirov throws another wild kick that sends him crashing to the canvas. Wada jumps on top and looks to capitalize, but it’s Zakirov who pops right back up and throws hands with Wada up until the final bell.

After three intense rounds of back-and-forth action, Sanzhar Zakirov emerged victorious on all three judges’ scorecards, securing his fourth win in a row under the ONE banner and 11-0 overall.

Wada fell to 26-13-2 in his mixed martial arts career and a sixth overall loss in ONE. ‘The Sweeper’ is now .500 inside the Circle, going 6-6 during his seven-year run with the promotion.
